Matt, a California snowbird, retired and sold his pool and spa business in 2016. He now splits his time between Lake Almanor, CA, in the summer and Indio, CA, in the winter. With a deep passion for tennis, Matt began his career at a local tennis club in Chico, California, starting in maintenance and working his way up to management. Along the way, he earned a BS in business management with a minor in recreation administration. After venturing into various small businesses, Matt found his niche in the pool and spa industry, where he successfully ran a business for over 25 years.
With nearly five decades of tennis experience, Matt discovered pickleball and quickly embraced the sport. Leveraging his tennis background, he sought coaching from some of the top pickleball professionals, which led him to high-level tournaments and qualification for Nationals at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens in 2019. He dedicates much of his time to teaching pickleball through independent instruction and volunteer work. In the summer of 2023, Matt had the opportunity to assist PPA top professional Riley Newman with clinics at the Lake Almanor Country Club. Most recently, in April 2024, he trained with renowned coach Jordan Briones to further refine his skills and enhance his teaching.
Outside of pickleball, Matt enjoys hiking, spending quality time with family and friends, and playing drums professionally in a classic rock band in the Coachella Valley. He is passionate about introducing others to pickleball and helping players of all levels improve their skills.
